Hope you all had a great Labor Day weekend! This week at your favorite community bike shop:

Tuesday (Sept 3rd and 10th): Open Shop from 6-9! Please sign up here if you are available to volunteer.

Saturday (Sept 7th): Volunteer Orientation at 12 PM – Come find out how you can get involved with NBP! No mechanic experience necessary. Shop Maintenance from 12-4 PM. Shop Maintenance is a great time for new volunteers to come and get plugged into NBP. A lot less busy and more personal than Tuesdays. NOTE: We are open for bike purchases and donations during Shop Maintenance hours!

Mechanics Classes – next round to begin Monday, Sept 9th, from 6:30-8:30.

Tentative Mechanics Class schedule:

– Monday, Sept 9th: Basics (beginner)

– Monday, Sept 16th: Wheels + Brakes (intermediate)

– Monday, Sept 23rd: Drivetrains (intermediate)

– Monday, Sept 30th: Bearings + Bottom Brackets (intermediate)

Classes are $10 each, and do not need to be taken in order (although we strongly recommend that the basics class is taken before any of the intermediate level classes if you are new to bikes). The Park Tools “Big Blue Book of Bicycle Repair” will also be available for purchase for $20. TO REGISTER: Please e-mail training@newarkbikeproject.org with your name, phone number, and which class(es) you plan to attend. Spaces are limited, so make sure to sign up soon!

LAST BUT NOT LEAST!!! If you’ve read this far, you really are a dedicated volunteer 😉 I have put together a google doc of all our tabling events/opportunities. The main ones listed right now are DelDot safety checkpoints and Newark Community Day. These tabling events are great opportunities for us to connect with the citizens of Newark and to help promote safe cycling. If you can, please sign up with your name and e-mail address for tabling shifts here 🙂 Your help is very much appreciated!
